Love, Power, and Death by CaptnBucky Love, Power, and Death by CaptnBucky
Ayyy, surprised that I'm posting twice in a row? So am I. But it's almost Halloween, and I cannot stop thinking Harry Potter. Cool fact, I won a zentangle competition with this!!!

Hope you like it!!!!

I'm aware the pic is not symmetrical, it's because of my printer, boooo.

I will start by saying that I love all the intricate detailing. I do believe I see some Tim Burton inspiration there. In particular, I like what you did with the web down at the bottom, it's very nice.

If you will permit me to be ignorant of how this piece is constructed, is it photographed or scanned? It may be just me, but some of the corners of the piece look a bit dark and some of the paper looks uneven, which I'm not a particular fan of. However I do like the drawing itself.

It was scanned, and then I edited it digitally, darkening the corners to give it a sort of burnt dirty look!

Hi from ProjectComment!

I really love this and wouldn't be able to do it myself. The most successful aspect imo is your lineweight variation, it really brings everything together. Details and filling come second, they wouldn't be much without that variation.

I think I have the most difficulty with this piece when it comes to composition, as it doesn't look pre-planned or co-ordinated. Although beautiful, the decorations around the main focus (the deathly hallows symbol) kind of take away from the piece. Here's what it could've looked like: goo.gl/kWIVkB

Looking at your other works (your environments especially), you seem to have a cgood understanding of composition. But in your other pieces (like portraits and decorative pieces like this one), that knowledge is lost. The fun thing about composition is that you can use it everywhere, not only in environments! Take a look at masters like Alphonse Mucha, he frames his portraits in a way that's very compositionally appealing. I think you would really benefit from studying his work (goo.gl/cwUnVR).

Here are some videos that I think will benefit you personally:
youtu.be/O8i7OKbWmRM
youtu.be/thSjD0BGPx4
youtu.be/uOZF5Lmf7F8

I hope you continue to create pieces like this because it's clearly something you're very skilled at. You can only improve from here ;)

Hey there, i'm also from ProjectComment

This is a excellent fanart piece for a great series. Amazing detailing works with a neat presentation. I am simply blown away just by looking at it. I am not be a huge fan of the series, which is probably why i don't understand what is going on with the picture or what story it's trying to portray. Regardless, the amount of details and effort poured into this work still leaves me in awe. No wonder you've won a competition with this. Congratulations by the way!

I am not an expert in this kind of work (not an expert at all), however, let me tell you tiny errors i see in this work. First of all, the circle inside the triangle is a little bit off. You could've used a compass to make it a perfect circle and also, notice how the right semi-circle looked as if it's behind the triangle while the other one doesn't? I really think a compass and a few adjustments with the dimensions would've avoided that. Also, the thing on the top left where there is a girl and a guy holding hands (i think) the curves could be smoother.

I see a missed opportunity for a perfect symmetry with the objects surrounding the deathly hallows(?) It looks great but some just missed the symmetry like the spirals on the side especially the one that passed beyond the picture and the flower at the bottom. This is a traditional art so i know that's gonna be difficult to pull, unlike in digital there's a symmetry ruler so i completely understand. I'm just saying it's a missed opportunity, no pressure :)

So, the only advice i could tell you is use other geometric instruments for this kind of art. I know what i've said sounds really nitpicky but i think it's really worth the mention. Still this is a really great work, good job! Have a nice day!

Thanks so much for the advice!!!! Haha, actually wanna know a secret? When I scanned my drawing, it cut off some of it on the right, that's why the spiral doesn't match with the other XDD

Greetings from :iconprojectcomment:

It's ridiculous of me because I had to stare at it for several minutes wondering why this is Harry Potter. Apparently I miss something very obvious!

Anyway, this is a nice piece. I love your style and the amount of details you've put in here is impressive. On my MacBook screen, these circles look so small I can barely make it out! I like the sepia tone of the piece as well, which goes really well with your style and also the nature of the piece. It would make a perfect accompaniment to a fantastic tale such as Harry Potter.

But as this is Project Comment, I must give you constructive comment not just praises. So here we go.

The first thing I can point out is the imbalance. The symbol is meant to be perfectly symmetric, but here it is slightly off, and it's noticeable. It doesn't immediately distract my eyes from the piece, but it gives an unbalanced feel right away (just to point out though, I'm pretty OCD, so some people may not notice the way I did). The way you placed swirls of stems, leaves, and flowers along the symbol is also asymmetric. Sometimes asymmetry is good, but in this instance, it's somewhat close to being symmetric, but not quite, giving me a off keel feel. There are a lot of details on the left bottom corner, yet there is little on the right bottom, also making the piece heavy on the left. I think if you made this piece more symmetric, or more purposely asymmetric, it would have stronger impact. Symmetry would give more power to the piece. Carefully arranged asymmetry could give the unsettling feelings that something evil may lurk. But right now it feels like it's an unplanned asymmetry.

Though the sepia is really nice, the placement of darker sepia right now seems random. It's nice around the light from the wand, and around the bird on the right bottom. But the bit on the top left makes it appear dirty, and also four drops on the right middle look like an accident. I think if you wanted to apply these darker shades, maybe you could have done it as a zone (like on all four corners, bit on edges as if to frame the piece) instead of here and there.

But otherwise, it's a beautiful beautiful piece. Remember, I'm trying to come up with something constructive as that is the purpose of project comment. Take what you need and ignore what you don't since ultimately it's your art and your choice :-)

Cheers
Blue

Hahaha yeah I scanned it, and my scanner wasn't big enough so it cut out some of the stuff, that's why it seems unbalanced, which really sucks XDDDD It also cut out some other detailing, but ya know, whateves :P But yeah, I promise if you saw it in person, it would be more symmetrical! Thanks so much for the comment!!! PS The four drops and the dirty appearance were on purpose to give it a sort of burnt, maybe oil/ink stain look to it, 'twas all on purpose, nothing accidental!

Just an idea, but if you are doing traditional art, you can actually stain and burn your paper. Tea staining works really well to make papers look old. You won't actually burn paper, but if you hold it above a candle, it can brown it too. My art teacher used to encourage us to do all sorts of crazy stuff, like if we are painting ground, he'd give us sand to mix into our oil paint, etc.

Hello! I am a member of ProjectComment! I would LOVE to give you some tips! (Not like my art is any better XD)

I love how you added Harry Potter into a Drawing such as this, Some lines (Mostly in the flower) Could be a little neater, To help with that don`t be afraid to use a shaped ruler, or a template (You can make your own by getting some thick paper and cutting it into the right shape) The editing is well done, but i think it might look best without the editing (I`m not telling you to change it! Keep it if you want :D) Another thing is i see you added numbers, I had a idea, maybe you could make a code (Or somthing) and add it in your drawings, and in each drawing show what One Code letter is in the ABCs (Sorry if that made no sense :'D)

Again this is WONDERFUL! keep drawing :D

Yeah, I pretty much played around with the colouring, made it look a little dirty/burnt, and that was it! None of the design was edited though, trust me the original isn't much different from this other than it's not cropped because my printer was too small to fit it all in, lol! Anyway, the code is 9 3/4, which stands for Platform 9 3/4 From Harry Potter! That was the first thing i drew inside the triangle, if I could have undone it, I would have taken the train and the numbers out XD thanks for the comment!

You see, I had this friend, who is very cool in line arts, and it makes me equallly fascinated. I am also a fan of HP's, and the title is absolutely perfect for this cool line art drawing. Detailed and structured, and the rose in the middle is beautiful!! I also liked how you draw the small drawings at the background beautifully(and a bit creepily) that tells the story of the three brothers in HP. I think this is one of my favourite line art drawings I had!!The light and the dark parts equally shapes the form of the Deathly Hallows.  Wonderful effort on putting this all together! Thanks for the beautiful artwork!

5/5 RATING!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!:D (Big Grin) :D (Big Grin)

I'm not the biggest critic on art, to be honest. Especially since I know this is better than anything I could ever do, even on a good day. But I love all the intricate details you put into this. Even the smallest things in here are well-detailed. I am starting to see the Harry Potter references on each side of the triangle... or zentangle. The bottom part is my favorite, as I love the spooky and sinister tone, as well as the web, which is beautifully detailed. From me, it gets a 5/5 star rating.

I see how you where thinking of Harry Potter here when I saw the little figure in the top left corner it immediately reminded me of the animation they had in the movies in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 where they explain the story of the 3 brothers, I see Mr. Death right there on the bottom~! I didn't even have to see the Deathly Hallows sign to know it was from harry potter being such a huge fan. What writing tool did you do to make this? The detail of it is amazing, the detail in every flower to every vine looks simply amazing! I'm not even surprised you won a contest with this, you truly did a wonderful work and you deserved to win that contest.

Oh my gosh! Its detail is amazing and the way how the characters look, they look like their from the real movie! I looked at it in shock and thought for a moment, "Wait...all those tiny drawings in the background look even more cool!!!" The message that screams to me is, IT'S HALLOWEEN AND WATCH HARRY POTTER!!! Well the style and vision is more than amazing, it has certain details that capture the eyes, what I mean is movement, it shows all these elements and princables that blow my mind away! I would love to see more art like this!! Please do fix one small, tiny, littlest problem...a bit more message screaming about there past and how they met, if not, then it's still a double infinity out of a infinity! Good luck in the future! Love this work!!

So beautiful! I cannot get over the fact that there's a triangle in the art piece (gravity falls), and it sorta reminded me of the illuminati = ). The cobweb in the bottom left corner looks very detailed and beautiful, giving a vibe of it's own. The two people on the top left corner is (probably) symbolic for love, and it makes sense. Everything is very detailed and (I my opinion) well thought out. The branches, cobweb, and flowers, make the whole art piece look sorta oldish. The rose in the centre of the deathly hollows is very pretty (and in my opinion, symbolizes life = ). A very well drawn and well thought out piece, and all of the details and such are very well done = ).
(I'm not too picky = ) Super awesome job!

Hi! I'm a fellow member of ProjectComment! I saw that you recently participated in Comment Wars, and figured that you would be open to receiving critiques ;) (Wink).

Wow, this piece is amazing! I could immediately tell that this was inspired by Harry Potter, but you brought the story to a whole other level with all the beautiful and creative details you included! The darkened/lightened areas in the corners really add a magical touch to the scene, especially the intense glow of the wand. You really are a talented artist! :lovely:

I have a few minor suggestions for this piece. First, there are some areas where the pencil lines can still be seen, such as the scenes in the top right and bottom of the picture. This is only noticeable after zooming in, hence it's a very minor issue. Some sections of the lines have noise/jitter, such as the line going through the center of the Deathly Hallows symbol. I know that it's difficult to avoid this with traditional art; if you're fine with making minor post-processing, I suggest getting rid of the jitter using an image editing software. Most of these are very minor and can't be seen without zooming in, but the line that I mentioned is one of the exceptions.

I hope my critique is helpful to you, and hope you have a wonderful holiday! Heart

Hello!! I'm back!! i edited it up, thanks so much for helping and telling me how to make it look a little cleaner. I decided to leave the noise/jitter, because I feel like it leaves some texture of authenticity and worn-outness. IDK, that sounded way better in my head than now as I'm writing this out :P I guess it's more an artistic style of choice to leave it looking more traditional than just completely perfect and photo shopped. Hope you understand, and thanks again :)
